Blog #6 - End of Semester Reflection

Image
During my practicum, I used AI to plan my lessons and create rubrics. When planning my lessons, the main thing I used AI for was to create my "I can" statements using the specific KUSPs. When it was time for assessment, I used MagicSchool AI to help create rubrics by entering the grading point scale (1-4) and the criteria I was going to mark them on. This helped me get a baseline and I was able to edit anything that needed to be changed to make more sense.  My main takeaway from this course was how useful and beneficial using technology as a teacher is. It can help make lesson planning, creating assessments, creating slides and so many things so much easier and faster. I will be using AI to work smarter, not harder in my future practicum and teaching career. It is also useful for the students because they get to learn how to use technology in a safe and fun way that allows them to learn practical life skills that they will continue to use in the real world.  My burning questi...

Blog #5 - Coding for Kids

Image
Coding for Kids - Scratch Jr. Dance Party Link to lesson plan I plan to use this lesson when teaching science, specifically when teaching computer science students. However, through this class and the other STEAM classes, I have realized the importance of incorporating technology into teaching all subjects. Scratch and Scratch Jr. make it easy to integrate that technology into anything that I may teach. I'm excited to learn more about the app and find different ways that students can incorporate it into their learning.

Blog #4 - Teaching with Technology

Teaching with Technology - Scratch Jr. Link to App Link to Lesson Plan Using technology in the classroom prepares students for the modern world. It enhances learning, improves student engagement, and promotes accessibility. Teaching my classmates a mini-lesson about Scratch Jr was very beneficial for my future teaching. It allowed me to get feedback about the lesson and what I may need to change or prepare for when teaching it to my grade 3 students. Overall, I would say that the app was found very useful and a great tool to incorporate into the classroom. After teaching, I would say that I need to become more familiar with the app in order to be able to answer more questions the students may have when working with it. It also taught me that it is okay to not have all the answers right away and that the students may also teach me stuff about the app that I did not know about. I'm excited to learn more about the app and use it in my practicum to teach the students about coding and ...

Blog Post #2 - Twitter

Image
Hi, welcome back to my blog! This is the link to my  Twitter page , feel free to look around.  Technology plays a vital role in the way we live our everyday lives. No matter where you look technology is everywhere, whether we like it or not. I believe that technology, such as Twitter, can be used as a great tool in my future teaching practice. As an educator, I could use Twitter as a way to connect with parents, colleagues, and the students themselves. I can post any information that will be useful for the parents, I can post the homework so that both the parents and students know what is due, and I can post helpful resources. Twitter is also a great way to network and meet other educators from all over the world. It allows you to get inspiration from others, stay connected to one another, and provides so many digital resources that you may not have been able to find otherwise. Overall, Twitter can be used as a tool that helps aid in continuous learning and professional develo...

1)  Previous experience with AI applications e.g., ChatGPT) and how you have used them (e.g., writing assignments)? I have used ChatGPT to help create writing prompts for lessons, create rubrics, find different recipes to cook and help get ideas of things to do when I get bored. I have also used Magic School AI to help create rubrics, and I used it with my MT this year to plan a quick lesson to see how it worked and how well it works. 2) Educational technology being used in your 3rd year practicum placement? My mentor teacher this year uses ChatGPT as Educational Technology to help her create rubrics or other in-class activities. For example, we were learning about ladybugs and she used ChatGPT to generate a reading and questions to assess the Grade 3s reading comprehension skills. The school has a tech room where classes can sign up and use communal Chromebooks. Each classroom has and utilizes a Smartboard, which allows teachers to present and interact with digital content in a w...
